that give a lean team the output of a big one.

Executive Summary

A frontier model now costs half the going rate through Nov 30, and that changes the math on agent-heavy work for small teams. The catch is that infrastructure built for agents is the new bottleneck. This week: a cheaper model to put to work, a hard look at what agent volume does to source control, and a simpler way to ship web apps on Lambda.

Top 3 News Highlights

1. Gemini 4 Argon launches at $2/$10, but only until Nov 30

Google DeepMind released Gemini 4 Argon on Oct 13 for long-horizon work like migrations, large refactors and enterprise knowledge work. The introductory API price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output, with cached input 95% off, through Nov 30, 2026. After that it moves to $4/$20, the same as Meta’s Muse Wonder. The API offers a 1M-token unified input-output limit. Google claims #1 on the Vals Index and a tie for #1 on CWE-Bench (68%) for vulnerability remediation; those rankings and its case studies are Google’s own.

The play: Run your biggest token-heavy jobs on Argon before Nov 30, test it on your own tasks rather than Google’s benchmarks, and budget for the price doubling once the intro ends. Google’s announcement · Developer availability

2. Agents broke git at Anthropic, so it built its own source control

In an Oct 13 engineering post, Anthropic says merges went from about 2,500 a day in May 2026 to more than 30,000 a day in September as Claude wrote more of its code. Human-scale source control became the bottleneck, so a team of seven built Scion, an in-house version control system, and moved the monorepo off git in five months. It’s designed for always-online clients like agents and CI, with history and merges handled on the server and checkouts that don’t need a full copy of the repo. Anthropic claims a 200x smaller CPU and memory footprint than git mirroring and a 25% CI CPU capacity win. Scion isn’t a public product, and Anthropic says it isn’t a general git replacement.

The play: You don’t need to leave git. Do watch merge volume and CI checkout times as agents take on more of your work, because CI and source control built for humans will fail first. Anthropic’s post · Simon Willison’s notes

3. AWS Lambda now runs ordinary web servers

AWS announced Lambda Web Functions on Oct 12. You deploy a port-listening Node.js HTTP server (Express, Hono, Fastify, Next.js and others) with
aws lambda-web deploy
, with no rewrite into event handlers. Each environment handles up to 128 concurrent requests, and billing counts active CPU, so time spent waiting on I/O costs little. Multi-region deploys with latency-based routing and canary revision weights are built in. At launch it supports Node.js 24 on Arm64 in five regions: us-east-1, us-east-2, us-west-2, ap-northeast-1 and eu-west-1. Classic Lambda is now called Event Functions.

The play: If you skipped Lambda because of the adapter rewrite, try deploying an existing Node API or SSR app as a Web Function, after checking that your region and runtime are supported. AWS News Blog

Tool of the Week: OpenCode 2.0

Anomaly’s open-source coding agent got a major overhaul. One auto-started local service is now shared by the terminal UI, web UI, desktop app and
@opencode/client
scripts. Code Mode (
@opencode/codemode
) turns MCP servers and OpenAPI endpoints into functions the model can script, so it can combine several tools in one round trip, and every MCP server now runs in Code Mode by default. Background subagents and an async shell keep the main agent working (Ctrl+B sends foreground work to the background), and
@opencode/sdk
lets you embed the same engine. Cloudflare has also documented running it on Workers with its Agents SDK.

Caveat: This is a breaking upgrade. V1 plugins and the old server API stop working, so upgrade deliberately with
opencode upgrade --major
. Launch note · Changelog · Repo

On the Radar

Deno is joining Cloudflare. Ryan Dahl announced on Oct 9 that the whole Deno team is moving to Cloudflare to build celld on the Workers model. Deno Deploy shuts down in six months, with migration support to Workers for paying customers. The Deno runtime gets monthly bugfix and security releases for another year, after which the Deno team ends development (the open-source project remains). If you deploy on Deno Deploy, your migration clock has started. Deno’s post

Agent37 pitches agent sandboxes at about $0.37 a month. The YC F26 startup says customers average $0.37 per sandbox per month, under 10% of typical providers. Those are founder claims, not independent benchmarks, and the gVisor approach rules out Docker-in-Docker and Android emulators. Launch HN

That’s the week.
